The Cavalry is Coming to Cowans in the Spring 2010!

The Cavalry is Coming to Cowans!  Part I

In the past two weeks Cowan's Auctions Historic Firearms and Early Militaria Department has travelled to California and Colorado picking up two noteworthy U.S.Cavalry collections The week of 11/9 Cowan's Auctions will once again be going back to Colorado/Wyoming to pick up yet even more U.S. Cavalry items.

One of the items that came from the California collection was a yellow silk flag of the 2nd Regiment U.S. Cavalry. In addition Cowan's received a pennant from the U.S. Cavalry dated "1918" from "Fort Bliss, Texas" and a guidon of unit "10E."

Other items included in the pickups were U.S. Cavalry uniforms and Indian Wars Officer's Spiked helmets and even some wool kepis. There are about seven U.S. Cavarly saddles, most complete with all of the extra tack.

It is amazing that there are so many accoutrements that a U.S. Cavalry collector can accumulate that fits into this theme.  As one might expect, there are numerous Mill's cartridge belts, bugles and dozens of snaffles and horse bits. Then there are the things that are even more extreme such as farrier's benches, branding irons and even an iron camp stove...you name it - it's here.

One of the perks of going to California and Colorado for pickup assignments is getting a change to see Yosemite National Park before the pickups commenced. Flying over the Grand Canyon was also a plus!

We will provide part II of the U.S. Cavarly collections that are coming in from the West in a future news release to be posted soon.
