Unique Southwest American Indian Belt Buckles in Cowan's March Auction
An exquisite Navajo 14 k Gold Belt Buckle with Blue Gem Turquoise is just one of many lots of Southwest jewelry in Cowan's upcoming American Indian and Western Art Auction.
The belt buckle is signed "JH", probably for Navajo smith Jimmy Herald, and marked 14k. Two bear claws and finely wrought flowers and leaves also appear on the buckle.

Another lot is a unique Sonwai, Verma Nequatewa, Hopi Belt Buckle. Finely crafted of sterling accented with gold, it contains stones of lapis, turquoise, malachite, coral, and others.

Also interesting is a Navajo Concha Belt. The belt features five conchas and four butterflies and is handwrought heavy silver with strong stamping in a traditional manner.
