A well known French expressionist painter, Bernard Buffet's work is highly sought after. A student of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (National School of Fine Arts), Buffet participated in major exhibitions including the Salon des Moins de Trente Ans and the Salon des Independants. During his lifetime, Buffet's work garnered great acclaim and recognition. In 1974 he was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts and in 1973 museum was established for Buffet's work in Surugadaira, Japan. The artist died in 1999 while suffering from Parkinson's.
