Masterworks: Beverly Mayeri Pixie MaskĀ

Price Realized: $780.00

(Born 1940, USA)

1987

Whiteware and Acrylic paint; lg. 5.5 in.

The structure of this mask is one of Mayeri's most distinctive ways of deconstructing the human form. The piece is cut and reassembled on a flat base creating an intriguing optical effect. As the artist comments, "Many of my pieces are psychological portraits that explore what one feels rather than what one sees."

Mayeri is a studio artist living in the Bay Area. She earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MA in sculpture at San Francisco State University. Her work has been shown extensively in numerous museums and galleries, and is included in many public and private collections. She has received 2 NEA grants, and a Virginia Groot grant, and has lectured and taught many workshops throughout the US.
