7 x 9 in. albumen image on 12 x 16 in. mount with Gardner's 1866 copyright statement. No. 26 and July 1865 below title. A typed description with the image points out a number of features of the town at the end of the Civil War. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad runs between the river and eight buildings that are the remains of the old U.S. Armory, before crossing the bridge near the center of the image. At the end of the bridge is a fine hotel. "Between it and the row of tents is located the little engine-house used as a fort by John Brown."
Overall a fine image of an iconic location associated with the Civil War.
Condition: Toning around the image from being framed previously. Minor foxing in upper corners, probably from adhesive.
