Overview

The February 23 African Americana Live Auction offers a diverse selection of photographs, books, manuscripts, imprints, newspapers, posters, and other ephemera dating from the 18th through the 20th century, with themes such as slavery & abolition, war, civil rights, politics, music, art, literature, and sports all represented. Influential figures including Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, Martin Luther King Jr., and many others appear throughout the auction. This sale brings together property from several important collections and estates, most notably the Estate of Ambassador Edward J. Perkins, Washington, DC, who served as US Ambassador to Liberia, South Africa, the United Nations, and Australia, as well as the Collection of Tom Charles Huston, comprised of a remarkable selection of 19th and 20th-century political imprints and ephemera.
