British Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket

.577 caliber. 39" round barrel secured by three three rounded clamping barrel bands. no S/N. Blued and color casehardened finish, brass furniture, walnut stock. Lock marked "1862 / TOWER" forward of the hammer with the British Crown to the rear of the lock plate. Barrel with weak Birmingham commercial view, proof and definitive proof marks and a pair of "25" gauge marks. Two weak "BSAT" (Birmingham Small Arms Trade) marks are present in the wood behind the triggerguard. Missing long range rear sight, retains combination front sight/socket bayonet lug, original full-length ramrod and sling swivels. Includes an apparently period US musket sling. An attic condition, untouched example of the second most used long arm of the American Civil War.

Condition:

Good. Retains no finish with a heavily oxidized brown patina with moderate to heavy pitting at the breech. Markings partially visible and partly obscured. Mechanically functional. Bore poor, heavily oxidized with no visible rifling and measuring about .60 caliber now. Barrel bands on backwards. Stock lightly sanded with moderate wear and a crack under the lock mortise running from the bottom of the plate under the hammer to the triggerguard area.
