A watch chain and fob containing various samples of California quartz inlaid into rose gold bezels. The 1.25" links are double sided and are joined by intricate woven links of wire. A 1.5" tall horseshoe serves as the fob and is inlaid with sixteen samples of California quartz. As a presentation to T. F. Walsh the piece is inscribed "T.F. WALSH FROM MEN OF GRIFFIN MINE MARCH 1885".
Thomas Francis Walsh (April 2, 1850 - April 8, 1910) was an internationally known mining magnate who discovered the Camp Bird gold mine, one of the largest and most productive gold mines in American history. He is also famous because of his purchase of the Hope Diamond as a wedding gift for his daughter, Evalyn Walsh McLean.
