** Colt 1911 "Black Army" Special
.45 ACP. 5" barrel length. SN: 393607. Single-action semi-automatic pistol with military lanyard ring, exposed spur hammer, flat mainspring housing, short grip safety, and fixed u-notch and half moon sights. Blued metal finish with checkered double diamond walnut grips. Features checkering to long spur hammer, magazine release, slide lock, and graduated thumb safety. Markings include standard two-line manufacturer patent dates, centered rampant Colt, followed by two-line address to left of slide. To left of the frame is "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and an (Eagle Head/S12) Springfield proof next to trigger guard. Has model name to right of slide, and serial number stamped to right of frame. Under grips you can see unfinished heart-shaped grip openings typical for late war "Black Army" 1911's. Item does not appear to have the (HP) stamped barrel seen on WWI-era 1911's. Magazine also appears to be newer, is stamped "Colt 45 Auto" to bottom. Showing machine marks overall, this "Black Army" Colt 1911 was a late war production manufactured in 1918. Includes Colt factory letter.
Condition:
Very good. Bore is immaculate and rifling is sharp. Finish has considerably flaked away in some areas, mostly to top of slide, grips, and muzzle. Grips have darkened in color but are in good condition. Left grip has several bites, right grip has worn smooth in some areas.
