.577 caliber. 39" barrel secured by three screw clamping bands. no S/N. Blued and color casehardened finish, brass furniture, smooth walnut stock. Lock marked "1862/TOWER" forward of hammer with the {British Crown} without a VR under it behind the hammer. Standard Birmingham commercial proof marks at breech with 25 gauge marks indicating .577 caliber. Maker's name "W SCOTT" stamped into toe of stock, with small BSAT and Crown/WS marks behind triggerguard. Birmingham Small Arms Trade roundel on obverse of butt. Breech plug tang and stock stamped "A 9". Retains original 900-yard ladder rear sight, front sight/bayonet lug, full-length ramrod and both sling swivels. A nice representative example of an Enfield Rifle Musket that could well have been a Civil War import.
Condition:
Very good. Barrel with traces of blue mostly faded and oxidized to plum, showing some scattered surface oxidation and pinpricking. Mechanically functional, very good bore is mostly bright with some oxidation and scattered light pitting. Stock very good with some softening of the sharp edges and scattered bumps, dings and mars.
