Evans New Model Lever Action Repeating Carbine

.44 Evans. 22" round barrel with single barrel band. no S/N. Blued and color casehardened finish, smooth walnut stock and forend. Standard one-line Evans barrel markings. Adjustable ladder long range rear sight, blade front sight, sling swivels in toe of stock and on barrel band. Roughly 4,000 of these interesting 28-shot lever action carbines were produced circa 1877-1879, before the company failed. The lack of power in the short .44 Evans cartridge meant that it simply could not compete with the lever action rifles made by Winchester, although the Evans did offer roughly twice the number of shots without reloading. Includes leather rifle scabbard of more recent vintage.

Condition:

Good. Retains some traces of blue on the barrel and traces of case color on the lever. Metal shows moderate amounts of surface oxidation, discoloration and roughness with a mostly legible barrel address. Mechanically functional, very good bore is mostly bright with some frosting. Wood with some wear, a chip missing from the toe and on the obverse at the buttplate, forend loose. Otherwise with dings and mars from handling and use. Scabbard fair.
