Lee Fire Arms Company Rifle

.44RF, 28" octagonal barrel, no S/N. Blued finish, smooth straight-gripped varnished walnut stock. Standard two-line Lee Fire Company barrel markings. Pivoting breech single-shot rifle with manual extractor. Dovetailed rear sight appears to be an old replacement, dovetailed German silver front sight blade. Only about 1,000 of these rifles were produced circa 1865-1866 by James Paris Lee, who would go on to be a driving force in military firearms production with his designs being produced by Winchester, Remington and who was the father of the Lee-Enfield series of English military long arms.

Condition:

Good. Retains no finish with a moderately oxidized barrel with some scattered pitting and mostly legible markings. Mechanically functional, although the receiver has a crack in it, on the reverse  that runs through the trigger screw. Fair bore with visible rifling and moderate pitting. Stock with wear, retaining some varnish and showing scattered bumps, dings and mars.
