.35 caliber. 40.5" octagonal barrel length. SN: NSN. Pennsylvania-Kentucky style long rifle with flintlock action and fixed notch and blade sights. Browned metal finish with brass and silver fixtures. Solid fiddleback maple stock has a plain straight grip and forearm with cheek rest to left side. Features an brass elongated buttplate and serpentine trigger guard. Silver fixtures on stock include two half moons, two stars, and an eagle shaped piece to left side of butt. Right side of butt has one star fixture and a patriotic eagle shaped patchbox design. There are also four scroll-type fixtures to both sides of forearm. Right side lock plate is made of brass. Patchbox lid is opened by pressing a spring loaded button located on heel of buttplate. 7-rifled octagonal barrel appears to be signed either "W. E. Blake" or "W.C. Blake" to top; middle initial is obscured. Item is with flint and action is functional. Includes ramrod.
Possibly manufactured by Blake or a smith known as "W.B" out of the Rowan school of gunmakers prominent to North Carolina in the late 18th/early 19th century.
Condition:
Fair to good. Bore appears dark. Finish has some losses and has developed a brown-red patina to most of barrel and sidelock. Patchbox has some oxidation on the inside. Brass and silver fixtures have some discoloration, light oxidation. Screws on left side lock plate not flush, possibly replaced at some point. Wood to metal fit is good. Wood stock is in good condition overall, with few defects aside from some light scratching.
