commercial leather with brass and copper rivets along edge; incised decoration at opening, length 9.25 in.; heavily used knife with wood handle, length 9 in.  Penciled note included: Big Back/ July 1 - 1929.
fourth quarter 19th century

Big Back, a Northern Cheyenne, is noted for depicting General R.S. Mackenzie's fight with the Cheyenne in the Big Horn Mountains on November 25, 1876.
