**Rare "Un-Quality" Hardware M1 Carbine

.30 Carbine, 18" barrel, S/N 4436997. Parkerized finish, blued bolt, oval-cut high-wood stock. Receiver marked UN-QUALITY over the serial number. Chamber marked U.S. CARBINE / CAL. 30 M1 in two lines. Sanded stock weakly marked Q-RMC in sling cut, with weak boxed RMC cartouche on obverse, no visible {Circle-P} on bottom of pistol grip. Two-rivet hand guard marked Q-RMC on interior. Barrel without expected Flaming Bomb ordnance mark and date, showing what appears to be a weakly struck Winchester proof about 6" from the muzzle, along with a single V 3" from the muzzle and a P 6.5" from the muzzle. Flat bolt top, S and GE Q marked Type I rear sight, P OQ marked front sight, unmarked Type I barrel band, NL-Q marked trigger housing, LT-Q marked hammer. Throat erosion 2.5, muzzle erosion 1. Includes a single U Q marked 15-round Type I magazine, a post-WWII OD Green sling and an oiler.

Union Switch & Signal was subcontracted to produce 29,000 receivers for Quality Hardware in their 3rd contract production block of M1 carbines between serial numbers 4,432,100 and 4,532,099. The early deliveries were marked "UN-QUALITY" to distinguish the US&S produced receivers, a marking that was rather quickly discontinued due to the implication of poor quality. Today these guns are highly prized by M1 collectors due to their rarity.

Provenance:From the Collection of Charlie Hinton

Fine. Retains much of the period Parkerized finish with thinning, wear, and loss; mostly along high edges and contact points. Markings in metal remain mostly clear. Stock lightly sanded with weak but legible markings, with the wood showing light handling marks. Mechanically functional, fine, mostly bright bore is lightly frosted and retains crisp rifling. A very presentable example of a scarce M1 Carbine variant.
