.52 caliber percussion. 22" barrel length. SN: 89?79. Falling-block action single shot carbine with checkered spur hammer, single barrel band, and adjustable ladder and fixed blade sights. Blued metal finish, case hardened receiver, and straight grip curled walnut stock and forearm. Item features a saddle bar with saddle ring to left side, and a lever locking safety toggle behind trigger guard. Markings include "NEW MODEL 1863" behind rear sight, "R.S.LAWRENCE/PATENTED/FEB 15th 1859" to rear sight, and "C.SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 13th 1848" to left side of receiver. On right side of receiver frame, item is also marked "C.SHARPS PAT/OCT 5th 1852" to center of lockplate, and "R.S. LAWRENCE PAT/APRIL 12th 1859" behind cock lever. There is also a "H.H.H." cartouche to comb of stock preceding the heel of the buttplate.
Condition:
Good. Composite gun with replaced period wood. Tang broken and re-welded. Bore is frosty and shows mild pitting and oxidation to rifling. Metal pitted and oxidized with receiver cleaned to bright. Wood has scattered light handling marks, as well as a 2" crack to forearm in front of falling block lever. Wood to metal fit on butt stock has gapping that is slightly larger than paper thin. Mechanically functional.
