.44-40. 8" octagonal barrel. SN: 83184. Single-action revolver with fixed cylinder, obsolete loading lever, exposed spur hammer, and fixed notch and blade sights. Blued metal finish, brass triggerguard, and plain walnut grips. Conversion number "249" on grip frame under grip and under barrel. Trigger guard marked "44" on right and with a "UB" to left of trigger guard. 5-shot round cylinder is marked as "PATENTED APRIL 3D 1856". The revolver appears to have originally been a Remington factory alteration to .46RF that was later altered to centerfire, apparently .44-40 as a dummy fits the chambers perfectly. Serial number and conversion number are both marked under left side grip.
Condition:
Good. Retains some of the original blue as well as what appears to be older touch up blue. Markings mostly legible. Alteration to center fire somewhat crudely affected with long firing pin added to hammer. Mechanically functional, good bore with oxidation and some pitting. Grips appear to be old replacements with a crude and incorrect screw. Grips sanded and with wear.
