U.S. Model 1855 Rifle Musket by Springfield
.58 caliber. 40" barrel secured by three flat, spring-retained barrel bands. no S/N. Bright finish, smooth walnut stock, brass nose cap. Standard Springfield lock markings, dated 1858, no visible marks on barrel. "U" marked barrel bands all on gun backwards. Long range rear sight with ladder correctly marked "US" under the elevator, correct swelled shank, tulip head ramrod. Retains sling swivels with period leather sling attached. Includes a reproduction wood tompion.
Condition:
Good. Metal cleaned to bright with moderate pitting on the barrel, which retains no markings. Lock functional but missing the internal Maynard tape primer feed parts. Bore poor, with weak rifling and moderate pitting. Stock lightly sanded with scattered bumps, dings and mars and no visible cartouches.
