Breech block marked U.S. / MODEL /1873; barrel with typical V / P / {eagle head} and P proof marks. Script SWP / 1881 cartouche opposite lock with weak {circle}-P behind triggerguard. "R" marked 1879 pattern rear sight, sling swivels, stacking swivel. Butt trap with 1879 pattern tool and headless case extractor. Retains correct triangular-to-round combination bayonet and cleaning rod. Only 1,001 of these experimental "Rod Bayonet" Trapdoor rifles were produce ca 1881 and this is a very nice example.
Condition:
Very good to fine. Retains some of traces of thinning blue with a mostly smooth plum-brown patina on the barrel, more on the lock and furniture. Breech block with dark coloration, tang with some vivid case color. Mechanically functional, fine bore. Stock with scattered light handling marks and some minor bumps and dings.
