U.S. Springfield 1873 "Trapdoor" Carbine
.45-70 Gov't caliber. 22" barrel length. SN: 413014. Single-shot hinged breechloading-action rifle with saddle ring, saddle bar, single barrel band, serrated trigger, and adjustable ladder and fixed blade sights. Blued metal finish and plain straight grip walnut stock with low comb. Markings include a crested American Eagle stamp followed by "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873" marks to lockplate, and "U.S./MODEL/1873" marked to trapdoor breech. Barrel has standard proof marks on top left side. Stock has the letters "S" and "O", followed by an illegible third letter carved into underside of forend.
Condition:
Very good. Bore is frosty and rifling is good. Finish has flaked and depleted on most of metal surfaces, is developing a grey patina, and has some scattered pitting overall. Lockplate marks are partially obscured from wear. Wood stock has dings, bites, and scratches overall.
