U.S. Springfield Model 1884 "Trapdoor"

.45-70 Gov't caliber. 32.625" barrel length. SN: 495785. Single-shot hinged breechblock-action rifle with serrated trigger, cleaning rod, sling swivels, and adjustable tangent and fixed blade sights. Blued metal finish, case hardened breech, and plain straight grip walnut stock. Markings include a crested American Eagle followed by "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" on lockplate, and "U.S/MODEL/1884" to front of breech. Cartouche marks include a sharp boxed Samuel W. Porter (SWP/1890) mark to right of grip, and a stylized "P" mark under butt. Hardware and barrel have various letter proof markings. Serial number is marked to rear of breech.

Very good. Bore is minty and rifling is sharp. Finish has mostly turned to a plum patina and shows some light evidence of pitting. Barrel bands have some losses to finish as well. Wood stock has some heavy scratches and losses mostly to butt, but also overall.
