Upper Canada Marked London Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver
.36 caliber, 7.5" octagonal barrel, S/N 33223 (mfg. ca1855). Blued and color casehardened finish, iron backstrap and triggerguard, one-piece varnished walnut grip. Matching numbers on all parts including grip and wedge. One-line London barrel address, London commercial proof marks on left of barrel web and on cylinder between chambers, Upper Canada stamp on left of grip, reading UC / L / 2. The mark indicates that the gun #2 issued to L company of the Upper Canada militia. Approximately 550 London produced Colt Navy revolvers were acquired for the Upper Canada militia. The "Upper Canada" region comprised what is now the southern section of the province of Ontario as well as the lands bordering Georgian Bay and Lake Superior. A scarce and desirable variant for the martial Colt Navy collector.

Condition:
Very good. Retains some flaked traces of blue on the barrel and some traces of case color in protected areas. The balance of the metal is a mostly mottled and lightly oxidized pewter patina. Cylinder with most of the scene and thumb sized patch of lightly etched pitting. Markings remain clear, mechanically functional, very good bore. Grip with added varnish, scattered bumps and dings, and a chip out of the lower inner edge on the right side.
