US Model 1873 Single Action Army "Artillery" Revolver
.45 Colt. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 3216. Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut grips. Barrel marked with one-line "Script" style italicized address and lower left of frame with "Two Date in Two Line" patent address and early style "U.S." inspection mark with flat bottom "U". Mixed numbers as would be expected on an "Artillery" model re-work, with barrel #3529, frame #3216, triggerguard #120030, cylinder no numbered and backstrap #19535. Barrel with an "A" (O.W. Ainsworth) inspection and small "P" proof, cylinder with "J.T.C." (John T Cleaveland) inspection and small "P" proof, and backstop with tiny "C" (John T Cleveland) inspection. No visible inspection marks on frame or triggerguard. Grip not numbered but with weak, illegible cartouches on both sides and legible small "R.A.C." (Rinaldo A Carr) re-inspection marks on bottoms. Black powder frame, bullseye ejector rod head, early style ejector rod housing with locating stud and index hole in barrel, early civilian style hammer.
Condition:
Very good as arsenal refinished and refurbished. Retains most of the applied blue on the barrel and cylinder. Markings remain clear and fully legible throughout. Frame and hammer with faded case colors with a smoky gray color with some dull mottling. Mechanically functional, very good bore with black powder rifling. Grip with scattered bumps, dings and mars and weak cartouches. Gripstrap appears to be refinished.
