US Model 1873 Single Action Army "Artillery" Revolver

.45 Colt. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 120781. Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut grips. Barrel marked with one-line "Condensed Block Letter" style address, without dashes at end and lower left of frame with "Three Date in Three Line" patent address and "U.S" inspection mark without a visible period after the "S". Mixed numbers as would be expected on an "Artillery" model re-work, with barrel #34729, frame #120781, triggerguard #34234, cylinder #0731 and backstrap #729. Barrel with "J.T.C." (John T Cleveland) inspection and small "P" proof, cylinder with soft "D.F.C." (David F Clark) inspection and small "P" proof, and backstop with tiny "A" (O.W. Ainsworth) inspection. No visible inspection marks on frame or triggerguard. Grip not numbered. Black powder frame, kidney shaped ejector rod head, early civilian style hammer.

Condition:

Very good as arsenal refinished and refurbished. Retains much of the applied blue on the barrel and cylinder with the cylinder blue applied over some light pitting. Metal otherwise mostly smooth. Frame with some muted case colors with a mostly smoky gray patina with some dull mottling. Hammer with a similar appearance. Markings remain legible throughout, although a little soft and weak in some areas due to the refinishing process. Mechanically functional, very good bore with correct black powder rifling. Grip an apparent later replacement with traces of varnish, a couple of minor chips at the leading and trailing edges and slightly proud of the frame along the lower edge. Cylinder looks to have been refinished.
