US Model 1879 Trapdoor Carbine

.45-70, 22" barrel, S/N 207139 (mfg. ca1883). Blued finish, color case hardened breech block, smooth straight-gripped walnut stock. Breech block marked US / MODEL / 1873, lock marked with {Spread-Winged Eagle} and US / SPRINGFIELD. Barrel with V / P / {Eagle Head} / P proofs, and with a small A inspection. Low arch breech, two-piece triggerguard, smooth trigger, 3-click tumbler, trapdoor buttplate with 3-piece cleaning rod and headless case extractor inside. 1879 pattern "C" marked carbine rear sight, pinned front sight blade, sling bar and ring. Stock with traces of a SWP cartouche over an illegible date on the counterpane and with weak {Circle-P} firing proof behind the triggerguard. The initials JC are crudely scratched into the reverse of the stock.

Very good. Retains some traces of thinned blue on the barrel with a mostly  oxidized brown patina and a dull blue black color to the lock and breech block. Mechanically functional, very good bore with some scattered oxidation and light pitting near the muzzle. Stock with moderate wear, showing numerous bumps and dings and couple of minor surface chips.
