.30 caliber. 18" barrel length. SN: 5754339. Gas operated semi automatic rifle with removable magazine, low wood, and adjustable rear milled sight and fixed blade front sight with ear protectors. Item has a dull military metal finish and a plain semi pistol grip walnut stock. This specimen appears to be a Type III model M1 Carbine and features a wide barrel band without the bayonet lug attachment, two riveted handguard, rounded top bolt, and an oval recessed sling cutaway to butt of stock. It also has an early style push button safety marked "EW" and a magazine release marked with an "M", both marks to right side. Receiver has "U.S. CARBINE/CAL. .30 M1" marked to front and "WINCHESTER/{serial number}" marked under rear sight. Stock features a sharp {crossed cannons} Ordnance Department cartouche to butt, and a Winchester "W" cartouche to bottom of grip. Item includes a nylon olive drab sling with buttstock pouch marked "U.S" to flap and "AVERY 1943" to backside. Handguard was removed for observation and has a "W" mark to bottom of wood. Barrel has two obscured Winchester proof marks to top side. Item was manufactured sometime in 1944.
Condition:
Good to very good. Bore is frosty and rifling is in good condition. Barrel appears to have been refinished at some point as it is not parkerized. There are losses and thinning to finish near muzzle, barrel, and top of bolt. Wood stock is in great condition and shows some minor scratches, dings overall. Muzzle grade of about 1.5, and throat erosion grade of about 0 to 0.5.
